What is business coaching? Business coaching is an ongoing, interactive partnership designed to help you achieve your professional and personal goals, more quickly and easily. The coach’s role is to help you strengthen your skills, implement new strategies and discover solutions to major issues or obstacles, with the goal of achieving meaningful, lasting results. As an objective third party and trusted partner, a coach works with you on the most important aspects of your business and life. Back to top
How is coaching different than consulting or counseling? Coaching assumes that the entrepreneur or business leader is an expert when it comes to their business. The coach’s role is to help the client clarify what they really want and then develop strategies and skills – based on each client’s unique personality and style - to achieve their goals, quickly.
A consultant provides expert advice and knowledge on specific issues or situations. Consulting is excellent when you need to acquire knowledge or expertise that you don’t already have, or when you need an objective third party to help understand situations or issues and then provide recommendations. Generally, the client is expected to implement the recommendations on their own.
Counseling is a very valuable tool for people that need to understand and handle historical problems, deep emotional issues, or issues that occurred early in a person’s life; these issues can typically hold them back today.Back to top

How does it work? How much time is involved? Is it face to face? Coaching engagements with Coach Kevin are specifically tailored to the unique needs and personality of each client. The first step is to ensure that there is a good fit and that he understands the issues at hand. To determine the fit, prospective clients complete a brief questionnaire. The next step is a one hour phone conversation to discuss and clarify situations, frustrations, obstacles and goals. In this conversation, the coaching format is discussed along with any specific preferences in the format; fees are also discussed.
If there is a good fit each client begins the process by completing an extensive questionnaire to further assess situations, challenges, motivations and goals. Then, Kevin designs a coaching experience to match each client’s requirements and situation. The first coaching engagement kicks off with a two day session either in Vancouver or at the client’s location and then clients receive scheduled one on one meetings each month to ensure that they are on track with their initial action plans, and work through new challenges and obstacles that come up. Kevin’s there when clients need him, whether it’s for a personal meeting on the other side of the country, or for five minutes on the phone to clarify a challenge, discuss an issue or gain input on a critical decision. What happens in an actual meeting? Every coach has a different approach. Coach Kevin’s approach is to begin each meeting by discussing all the wins and accomplishments since the last conversation. Simple as it sounds, this is a very powerful way to start a meeting because in the fast-paced – (and often negative) - world we live in, we don’t usually take time to reflect and focus on what we have accomplished; we are already on to the next opportunity or challenge. Success breeds success. And by taking time to recognize what you and the key people on you team have achieved, you will be energized for ongoing results.
Then, the meeting focuses on the challenges and opportunities today and issues the client needs coaching on; this discussion takes up most of the time together. Finally, the meeting wraps up by summarizing key points and confirming the commitments that the client – and the people on their team – will have done by the next meeting. Coach Kevin reviews and analyzes all this information with the client while staying focused on a big picture vision and roadmap – for the long-term, this year and this quarter. Before each meeting begins, clients complete a coaching meeting prep form to prepare thoughts, wins, challenges and the follow through actions from the commitments made in the previous session.
